Will the chip wear out? No. A microchip is guaranteed for the life of a pet. It has no battery or moving parts. It is not a GPS device and therefore requires no power source. Your pet feels nothing when his chip is scanned. The chip is rice-sized and sealed in a smooth biocompatible casing.
What happens if I do not activate my pet's chip? Microchip numbers are used to reconnect a lost pet and a registered owner. If you are not registered, the recovery network does not know about you. A calling shelter will therefore be told that the chip is not registered.
